Caring For Your Cover

When you purchase one of our covers they are covered under warranty but please remember covers like everything else need a small amount of maintenance to protect them from the environment.

All OCA covers are extremely tough and designed to withstand the harshest of environments. Inevitably they will get dirty, and you may want to clean them. Most dirt can be removed during routine boat cleaning with fresh water and a soft brush. For more stubborn marks please follow the cleaning instructions below.

 Please remember:

  • Mould does not exist unless dirt is present, so keep your covers clean.
  • If you do not rinse the salt out of your cover on a regular basis (6/6 below) as per the instructions, it will build up inside on the felt backing and may scratch your motor.
  • Please follow the 6/6 rule, wash/ rinse every 6 weeks or 6 outings.
  • Please be aware that the printing may become damaged if rubbed aggressively or bunched up when cleaned or stored.

DO NOT wash your cover/s in a washing machine or with standard detergents, this removes the chemicals used to protect the fabric from environmental damage (UV, salt, bird droppings etc.) and damages the printing. We recommend that the covers are rinsed by hand in fresh water with a little silk/ wool detergent and left to air dry.

When cleaning covers with any print please avoid rubbing or folding the covers along any printed area. This can cause marks to appear on the print.

DO NOT USE A JET WASHER OR HIGH-PRESSURE CLEANER ON THE COVERS.

 White Covers

Please note that white covers will show dirt much more than other colours. If washed regularly the UV resistance and any print colours will be degraded faster than normal. This is not covered under our product warranty (manufacturing fault claims not affected).

Re Proofing

The water repellent performance can be improved by an application of AQUA-TITE® GREEN or AERO 303 water repellents. Please follow the instructions that accompany these treatments but DO NOT let the re proofer touch the decals.

Please remember that the cover’s job is to protect the motor from damage so has a ‘sacrificial’ element to it.

NOTE:- If you do not maintain your covers in accordance with the care instructions you may void your warranty. We operate rigorous QC methods and history shows that 99% of all damaged covers are due to improper care.

If your cover is genuinely faulty we will replace it without question, we will however not replace covers damaged due to incorrect or non-existent care.

If you have any questions not answered in the instructions please do contact us as we are very happy to help.

Why not Vinyl?

People also ask what is wrong with using vinyl or a padded vinyl won’t that stop the noise more and offer more protection?

Yes it MAY but as it is not breathable it will cause moisture to build up under both the cowl and cover. This will corrode the motor and damage the paint and decals.

Most people are not aware that a replacement cowl is extremely expensive and if new decals are required these are usually extra and can cost as much as one of our Splash covers.

This is typically what would happen if you made your outboard cover out of a material that does not have breathability such as vinyl or even neoprene which is used on wet suits. They do not have what Polysoft® has!

Completely brilliant cover!

With the sort of abuse we give our outboard (we use it for watersports, so the kids regularly clunk the engine cover with wakeboards and skis) one season later it should look like it’s from a 3rd world country – but instead it genuinely looks as good as new, still fits like the proverbial glove – and despite months of Med sunshine the colour hasn’t faded one bit – can’t recommend it highly enough – if only you guys did covers for the Mothership…
