Can I operate my outboard with a vented Splash® Cover on?

In short – YES

Our Splash® covers have received approval from BRP, Mercury/Mariner, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha. We have been making them since 2000 and have over 80,000 in use all over the World.
Made to model specific patterns they are designed to fit like a skin whilst air vents in the cover allow the motor to operate without any change in performance.

In tests (175 Optimax in 40 degrees) we recorded a 1 degree drop in engine oil temperature compared to running without a cover in the same conditions.

For information on our fabric and customisation see FAQ’s below.

For more information please see our Splash® cover page.

Can I tow my boat at speed with a Full cover?

Yes – our Full covers are made to model specific patterns as our Splash® covers. This means that they fit perfectly and do not flap and flog when the boat is being towed.

All Full covers also include a leg strap that pulls the cover tight and reduces the air flowing into the leg section.

We offer a number of optional extras that make towing safer and the cover even more protective. See the ‘optional extras‘  menu for details.

Can I tow my boat at speed with a Splash® cover?

Yes – as with our Full covers you can leave the Splash® covers on during towing.

All OCA vented Splash® covers have a safety strap included that we recommend is used once the cover is on. This is a Velcro strap in the front of the cover that we recommend is attached to the motor. Full details are included in the fitting instructions supplied with every cover.

Does the cover fabric breathe?

Yes – we use a fabric called Polysoft® and Polysoft II®, this is 95% waterproof and 5% breathable, it is also breathable, UV resistant and protected against mould.

All OCA covers carry ourunique 3/5 warranty. Click HERE-> for more.

Does the fabric fade?

Our covers and fabric have been tested and used in some of the most extreme conditions from the cold of Iceland to the extreme heat of Australia. Under these conditions the materials we use performed perfectly and provided the required protection.

Polysoft® is guaranteed against rotting and fading for 2 years.

Will the covers scratch my motor?

No – our fabric has a non-abrasive polyester backing. As well as this we put a protective layer between all zips and tie downs for the zip toggles.

What colors are available?

We currently offer 9 standard colors and a camouflage option.

Colors can be mixed (maximum 2) for a small extra fee, for full details please see the colors page by clicking HERE->

Can the covers be printed?

Yes – we offer both black & white and full color printing on all our covers.

All you need to do is supply the text and font or a high resolution PDF or EPS file and we will do the rest. For full details click HERE->

We also print the manufacturers branding, this is subject to approval and is region specific. The print section of our interactive order pages will show you if we can offer this in your Country.

What is 'Trim & Tilt'?

Trim and Tilt (power trim) is the method for altering the angle of your outboard.

On portable motors this is manual, on the larger ones it is power driven.

The image below shows examples od where the buttons are on a throttle and the motor itself. Most power operated versions have both.

What if I have a Hydrofoil on my motor?

If you have fitted a fin or Hydrofoil to the cavitation plate of your outboard and want a FULL cover we will need to know about it so we can add a pocket to the leg section of the cover.

Please click HERE-> for further information and a measurements form.

Why not attach the leg section to a Splash® cover?

We are often asked why we don’t simply attach a leg section to our Splash® covers?

The answer is quite simple, if we added a zip or Velcro to a leg section so it attached to the Splash® cover, that has vented holes in it so the motor can operate, or pull start holes or if you have a smaller motor it has a hole in the rear of the cover so you can lift the motor out of the water (no trim or tilt), you would not be getting the overall protection that is offered by the Full cover as vents and other holes would remain uncovered.

What is the warranty on OCA covers?

All OCA covers carry our 3/5 warranty for domestic use and 1 year for commercial use.

For full details on all terms and conditions Click Here->

What if my cover is faulty or does not fit?

If there is a manufacturing or component fault you need to contact the Distributor or Dealer who sold it to you. They will approve a return (subject to the conditions set out in the supplied care instructions) and we will investigate the fault. If there has been a component failure we will rectify the fault.

What if it does not fit?

All our covers are custom made to a model specific patterns. Your cover is made based on the order submitted through the interactive order pages and the information you provided. We will investigate the causes of a non-fitting cover but if the fault is due to the wrong information being provided by the customer we will not be responsible for replacing it. Should the fault be ours we will rectify the problem.

Why do you cover the oil reserve cap on a 2 stroke Splash cover?

In the past we had a customer replenish his oil with his Splash® cover on & he spilt oil inside his cover this then got sand sticking to it & a big mess and eventually scratched his cowling. We approached the manufacturer & they insisted we cover over the oil filler cap to prevent this ever happening again. We do however recommend that you clean your Splash® cover every 6 trips or 6 weeks whichever is sooner that means taking it off and this is roughly the time your oil should last and then be replenished.

Extreme Angler – Texas Fishing Forum

I want to share some photos of the Outboard Covers of America “Splash Cover” I got for my 200 Mercury ProXS a few weeks back. I wanted to have it on the motor for a while before posting a review. I’m not one to show off my material things. But, I had a hard time finding photos of this brand on bass boats so hopefully this will help someone down the road when they are shopping for a motor cover.

These things are expensive, more expensive than some of the more well-known brands like Tuff Skinz. However, I can also tell you that the OCA cover fits tighter, looks better, and is not likely to leave any rub marks like the Tuff Skinz will (my motor already has some rub rash from the previous owner who had a Tuff Skinz on it).

The cover itself is very snug, to the point that it is difficult to install by yourself, and the elastic band at the bottom of the cover hugs the bottom of the motor cowling in a way that it does not ride-up over time. An added benefit to this grip point is that it does not cover up the trim button on the side of the engine. There is a small Velcro strap at the front of the cover that is little more than a comfort thing; It fits so snugly that I don’t think it is even necessary.

I paid extra for the Mercury decals because I think the boat looks better with them. That’s just me; I paid a lot of money for this boat and I’m not going to put something on it that I don’t like looking at. Unfortunately, these decals are not readily available so message me for details if that’s something you would want. I am not a representative or affiliated with OCA in any way, but I can get you in touch with someone who is if you want those decals.

In summary, the OCA is a very high quality product. It is expensive, but I do believe it is a better product than its less expensive competition. And, I did get blown into a gnarly tree while landing a fish about a week after I got it that would have certainly chewed up the side of my bare cowling; I just dusted off the wood chips from the cover and it looks like nothing ever happened.

Pro XZAbout price

As of Jan 2016 OCA have invested in automated fabric cutting machines (CNC) and have purchased x2 large format printers so we have reduced our pricing to be very competative (if not beat any competitors price).

Why not Vinyl?

People also ask what is wrong with using vinyl or a padded vinyl won’t that stop the noise more and offer more protection?

Yes it MAY but as it is not breathable it will cause moisture to build up under both the cowl and cover. This will corrode the motor and damage the paint and decals.

Most people are not aware that a replacement cowl is extremely expensive and if new decals are required these are usually extra and can cost as much as one of our Splash covers.

This is typically what would happen if you made your outboard cover out of a material that does not have breathability such as vinyl or even neoprene which is used on wet suits. They do not have what Polysoft® has!

Latest Testimonial

A brief note on my experience with Geoff and Leanne Felgate’s company, Outboard Covers & Accessories (a.k.a. Outboard Covers Australia) as per www.outboardcovers.com.au.

I whole heartedly recommend Outboard Covers Australia. Although their website does the job, I still prefer to order via phone and I am glad to say Geoff has answered the phone every time I have called. What more do you want? I have sold the Quintrex and now own a Sirocco RIB with a Honda F20; neat, fast and fun and now with a new cover for my new engine.
